John Lyons "America's Most Trusted Horseman"
John’s extraordinary ability to inspire and teach people how to become partners with their horses has launched a global training career that has spanned over 25 years. After a successful show career and gaining practical horse knowledge on his Colorado cattle ranch, John began giving training clinics and symposiums in 1980. With a background in education, he recognized people were eager for help with their horses and developed an extremely successful, solid training program that is unsurpassed.
As a pioneer in the clinician movement, John has been instrumental in changing the horse industry forever. Many of today’s training principles found their roots in John’s common-sense approach to people and horses. His philosophy on the snaffle bit influenced positive changes in the horse show circuit. His teaching methods have continually evolved over the years as a result of working with his best teachers – thousands of horses. His son Josh follows in his father’s footsteps. Continuing the legacy, Josh has made a name for himself in his own right as a respected horseman and clinician.
John and his wife, Jody, live in Parachute, Colorado, at “Our Dream Ranch”. Together they have seven children and ten grandchildren.
John feels blessed to now help even more people with their horses through expos, symposiums, demos, clinics and by his videos.

- John’s partner of 27 years, Bright Zip, is in the Hall of Fame in the Appaloosa Association. Zip is one of the most recognized horses in the world. In 1994, Zip was honored as the Breyerfest Horse of the Year. Zip was laid to rest in 2003.

- John has helped trained Mounted Patrol Units all over the nation.

- John is recognized as ‘America’s Most Trusted Horseman’ and is a major clinician and keynote speaker at large horse events nationwide and abroad.

- Equine Affaire chose John as the recipient of their first and only Exceptional Equestrian Educator Award.

- Equitana USA chose to honor John with their highly regarded Modern Masters Award for Outstanding Horsemanship.

- John was chosen as the winner of the University of Louisville’s John W. Galbreath Award for his outstanding contributions to the horse industry.
